Well...

1) The Scenario is way to grotesque to make it possible to stay serious

2) The "Bad Guy" is a total Nut and sometimes you dont know if you wanna hate him or pity him

3) The Way that guy dies is gruesome but very funny

Its actually kinda creepy in some scenes, but maybe just because you dont know what to expect because of the grotesque setting.
