although i doubt it was exactly the same scene, there is one in Casino where joe pesci's character 'nick' has his wife smuggle diamonds in her hair- the reason i don't think this is the same scene you describe is that casino is not that old a film- but you definately ought to check it out! anyway good luck finding your genesis scene!
