I went to this event twice; as a long-hair fan it's worth a bit of a trip to see that many long-haired beauties in one place. Though the state fair info implies kids are the main event focus, the age 16+ category gets a lot of entries and IMO had a lot of great hair. Well-known ladies from TLHS/FLHC are known to make an appearance; though I never had the guts to go chat with them.
As a bonus, if you're into ponytail cutting, there tends to be a local salon taking "donations" for locks of love. Fortunately they don't seem to pressure the contestants; it's not one of these things where the winner is expected to cut. (I'm no LoL fan but do enjoy seeing the dramatic change from super-long to short hair.) For better or worse, most of the long-haired adults there don't seem inclined to cut, but there's always a chance of seeing a dramatic shearing. I only got to see one really good cut in my two visits--a young woman with past-classic length curly hair taking it up to her shoulderblades.
