She made two specific very long videos talking about it. Her reasons were:

1. She had always planned on cutting it when she graduated - she actually put it off repeatedly out of reluctance and fear

2. She was going somewhere warm after her PhD, and somewhat undeveloped, making her super long and thick hair troublesome

She endured/ignored a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over her choice, and confessed being terrified that she'd regret it - she didn't, which is unfortunate for us long hair lovers, but fortunate for her well being.

She's such a lovely, brilliant person. This is truly a case of her being much more than a pretty head of hair. I say to Ines (not that she'd ever be caught dead on this forum), keep on keepin on. Your hair was beautiful, but your mind is even moreso.

For those mourning her haircut, Real Rapunzels has more uber hair every day. Did you guys see that Iryna woman with the cleft chin? Daaaamn. Her braid, not pancaked at all, was thicker than her arm!!
